Old age does not necessarily mean that people will be frail and fragile. Scientists from Australia said that the aging of an organism does not depend on age – it’s kind of a separate disease.
The JAMA Network journal Open has published the results of a new study, authored by experts from Monash University in Melbourne. These scholars argue that old age does not always lead to the development of senile fragility and physical helplessness. In particular, they note, the intake amount of protein and strength exercises effectively help to avoid senility in aging.
For many years it was believed that the old man’s fragility and the overall aging of the body is the natural and inevitable processes associated with the ending of the life. A new study has shown that just like the natural processes are not.
The research observed the life about 50 thousands of people living in 20 countries. Scientists have discovered an interesting feature: during the observation period, about one-third of older people suffering from senile fragility, suddenly “recovered”, his body returned to normal with no signs of senility. This discovery made doctors carefully examine the amazing phenomenon.
The researchers collected data on 120 thousand retirees from different social and economic categories and followed their life. Scholars interested in how often the elderly are faced with decrepitude. They have established that this problem has affected every twentieth of a pensioner after 60 years of age, more often women than men.
But it was also found that there are a number of factors hindering the development of senility in old age.
“More likely the emergence of senility fragility is affected by the age and level of physical activity and different chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and other problems with the cardiovascular system,” stated the scientists.
In favor of this opinion is the fact that the deterioration is much less likely to affect older people with high levels of education and income, which also features a scrupulous attitude to their health and propensity to a healthy lifestyle.
