29 November on the website of the President of Ukraine was published petition No. 22/079808-EP to ban the sale and use of Apple products due to display Russia annexed the Crimea “Russian territory” in the applications of the company.

“Apple supported the occupation of Crimea, defining the territory of Russia in their applications. Demand to ban their activities in Ukraine to ban their products – its import and available,” said the author of the document Roman Maksymchuk.

It proposes to equate the iPhone to the St. George’s ribbon and create a state program on utilization of acquired Ukrainians Apple products, which will cover damage to citizens.

As at 20.45 1 December a petition signed by 322 people. For consideration by the President, it needs to collect 25 thousand signatures within 90 days.

27 Nov Apple in Russia began to display the occupied Crimea and Sevastopol, “Russian” territory. While for Ukraine the Crimean cities began to appear without belonging to a particular state.

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vadim pristayko criticized Apple for marking on its maps Crimea as part of Russia. Former Ukrainian foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has suggested that the Ukrainian people could boycott the company.

According to Reuters, the way display locations in the Crimea in the software company changed in deference to Russian politicians, who demanded that the Peninsula was called a part of Russia. After the criticism Apple has decided to conduct an audit of its policy on disputed territories.

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius said in an address to the company that in the Crimea there is the so-called disputed boundaries – “there is only a plot of land which is occupied by Russia without regard to any principles of international law, and this land belongs to Ukraine.”

Russia annexed the Crimea and Sevastopol after the military blockade of Ukrainian military units and illegal referendum on 16 March 2014. The annexation of Crimea by Russia is not recognised by Ukraine and most countries of the world. In connection with the annexation of the Western countries have imposed sanctions against Russia, which was prolonged several times and tightens.

In January 2015, Apple was forbidden to sell their products in the Crimea. In August 2018, because of sanctions Apple removed from the App Store app of the online reservation service “Daily. ru”. Crimea accounted for 22.7% of all bookings that were made through the resource.
