The Minister of health of Ukraine Maxim Stepanov confirmed that PCR-tests for coronavirus (COVID-19) may give erroneous results.

As he explained at the briefing, the infected person, the virus is present in the nasopharynx, and when the smear is taken for the test, in most cases the disease is detected, writes Columnist.

“But at the same time, the virus may be present in the lower respiratory tract, and in this case, it could be a false negative result,” – said Stepanov.

Also, according to him, there is a dependence on the skills of specialists who take the swab.

“Of course, we are all human beings, and the same people our health workers,” added the Minister.

He stressed that if a person with a negative test result is the symptoms of coronavirus disease, he or do another PCR, or using ELISA method.

“We are clearly spelled out and regulated in the algorithms testing”, – assured Stepanov.
