The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed decree №99/2019 “On the celebration in 2019 of the day of memory and reconciliation, the day of Victory over Nazism in the Second world war and the 75th anniversary of the expulsion of the Nazis from Ukraine”.

As reported on the website of the Ukrainian President, the decree prescribed the events they signed “with the aim of honoring the feat of the Ukrainian people in the struggle for freedom, perpetuating of memory of victims of the Second world war, the proper celebration in 2019 of the day of memory and reconciliation, the Day of Victory over Nazism in the Second world war and the 75th anniversary of the expulsion of the Nazis from Ukraine”.

According to the decree, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine are required to develop, approve and ensure the implementation of the action plan on preparation and celebration in 2019 of the mentioned holidays.

In particular, the Cabinet must arrange for 8 9 may and 28 October 2019 in the capital of Ukraine – city of Kyiv, regional centers, other settlements of a memorial, ceremonial, cultural, scientific-educational and military-Patriotic and other special events with the participation of representatives of Executive authorities, local self-government bodies, accredited in Ukraine, diplomatic corps, clergy, and civil society organizations.

Also the government of Ukraine should ensure the organization and conduct of Patriotic events, military units, educational institutions and other institutions for young people with participation of veterans of war, fighters for Ukrainian independence in the twentieth century, the ATO participants and participants in national security and defense, the resistance and the containment of armed aggression of the Russian Federation in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.

In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers is entrusted with the implementation of measures to improve living conditions of war veterans, especially disabled veterans, combatants, families of those killed in the Second world war, exhibitions of archival materials related to the participation of the Ukrainian people during the Second world war, the extensive coverage of the celebration of the Day of memory and reconciliation, the day of Victory over Nazism in the Second world war and the 75th anniversary of the expulsion of the Nazis from Ukraine, preparation and dissemination of relevant social advertising.

The government is entrusted to ensure in the established procedure, the financing of these activities and access to religious organizations to hold memorial services for those killed in the Second world war and prayers for the defenders of the Fatherland.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, oblast and Kyiv city state administration to guide the preparation and holding of events to celebrate the Day of memory and reconciliation, the day of Victory over Nazism in the Second world war and the 75th anniversary of the expulsion of the Nazis from Ukraine for approval the victorious traditions of all generations of defenders of Ukraine, consensus and consolidation of society, strengthening the care for war veterans.
