President Petro Poroshenko stated that he would be glad to reduce tariffs, but it is not the responsibility of the head of state.
He said this at a meeting with representatives of the initiative “Wyborcza Glad UA” and the coalition of public organizations “Reanimation package of reforms” in response to the issue of tariffs.
“I will respond to “provocation” absolutely clear: I, along with the Ukrainian people want lower rates – especially that of the President is not independent. Well, if people want – need to do it,” – Poroshenko said, laughing.
“And now a serious answer. Now for this market – not the President, not the Prime Minister, not to “Naftogaz”, and the market – has created the necessary conditions, because spot contracts, and contracts to hubs in Europe allows us to accurately not to raise rates in may”, he added
Poroshenko said: “We are frightened: the fact that in may the rate will be 10, 11, 12 – see! You’ll see, will not. And they lied”.
“Today the government is ready, but I don’t want to take neither bread, nor the work of the government. They should inform yourself and nice things. Although I am on the eve of elections to say: I did it… It’s not that,” said the acting President.
Poroshenko added that the appointment or dismissal of Andriy Kobolyev from leadership positions in the NJSC “Naftogaz” is not the competence of the President.
“I heard that there is a proposal to recalculate the rates. The government – owner “Naftogaz”, the government approves the financial plan. Works there is a Board of independent Directors, which the government finds a compromise. And I was very happy to see if prices are cheaper in foreign markets, the Ukrainians would pay less,” he said.
“This is not in contradiction with my strategy is not to be a populist, since there is a very clear justification,” – said Poroshenko.
39.1% of Ukrainians polled in April by the Kiev international Institute of sociology, believe that in the first 100 days the new President to lower tariffs for utilities. This need respondents voiced most often.
