The incumbent President and the candidate for this position Petro Poroshenko said that he had talked with leaders of Germany Angela Merkel and France Emmanuel Macron on the establishment of peace and the liberation of the hostages.
He told about it in interview to TV channel “inter” during the live broadcast from Paris.
“I can say that the first question that was raised at the talks with the leaders of Europe was the establishment of peace. The world was devoted to coordination of our actions and we received a very clear message, that immediately after my election we have the ceasefire, which will focus on Easter and will be full-term signals to the Russian side that created the conditions that immediately after the presidential election to start serious negotiations in the Normandy format to ensure the peace process”, – said Poroshenko.
He added that he had spoken with European leaders to release the hostages.
“I raised the issue of the release of the hostages. With the President of France Emmanuel Makron I specifically raised the question of our journalist Mr. Sushchenko. You know he worked in Paris, France’s first lady cared about his fate…. We clearly have coordinated these steps. And in Berlin and Paris were given appropriate instructions and we strongly begin to prepare for the summit in the Normandy format, where the agenda must be included and these issues,” – said Poroshenko.
Also, according to him, Merkel and macron thanked him “as President of Ukraine for the brilliant organized the electoral process during the first round”.
