Poroshenko’s “plan Sajdik”: UN Peacekeepers are not an escort service of the OSCE observers

Порошенко о "плане Сайдика": Миротворцы ООН не будут эскорт-сервисом наблюдателей ОБСЕ

Ukraine has proposed the concept of the organization of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbass, supported by the leading countries of the world, and made only against the aggressor country. This was stated by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, commenting on the proposals of the special representative of the OSCE Chairman in the Minsk talks Martin Sajdik.

Ukraine is ready to consider any initiative to resolve the conflict in the Donbas if they do not harm its sovereignty and national integrity, but believes that the plan outlined in the Minsk agreements. About it on air of TV channel ICTV said the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, commenting on the proposals of the special representative of the Chairperson of the OSCE in the trilateral contact group talks in Minsk Martin Sajdik.

According to the Ukrainian President, in Minsk agreements provided for the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Ukrainian territory, the diversion of all heavy weapons and equipment, the restoration of Ukrainian sovereignty in the occupied territory.

In addition, Ukraine in 2015 introduced the concept of the peacekeeping mission in the Donbas with the mandate of the UN Security Council, said Poroshenko.

“We already have the support of the United States, Britain, and France. Negotiated, at least the non-use of the veto from China. Who is against? The aggressor – the Russian Federation”, – said Poroshenko.

The President stressed that the peacekeeping mission should have a broad mandate, extending to the entire region..

“There may be many plans, but the UN peacekeepers are not an escort service of the OSCE observers, as they suggested. No need for that. Peacekeepers need to create the world and have a mandate of all of the occupied territory. The presence of peacekeepers would mean the disarmament of illegal armed groups, the withdrawal of foreign troops and equipment,” – said Poroshenko.

“I think Mr. Sidiku enough to read it and to maintain it,” he added.

On the new plan of peaceful settlement of the conflict in the Donbas, designed to replace the Minsk agreement, Sidik said on January 28. His message was that the UN and the OSCE should cooperate in organizing peacekeeping missions and local elections.

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that the plan does not contain fundamentally new proposals.

The Russian foreign Ministry claim that the plan Sajdik do not support “parties to the conflict”.
