Last week, Donald trump, and Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation. The Kremlin immediately said that the presidents of the United States and Russia talking about Ukraine. In addition, U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo met with Sergey Lavrov, Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia, which discussed the situation in Venezuela. After this “reliable” Russian sources began to talk about what big deals between the U.S. and Russia, which will include the interests of the countries in Venezuela and Ukraine. However, in the opinion of the expert of the International centre for policy studies Mykola Kapitonenko, the US has no need of something to negotiate with the Russians. He told about it “Apostrophe”.
First, the United States, there is no need with Russia on anything to negotiate, because they have a much stronger position. And I do not see – neither in Venezuela nor in Ukraine nor in Syria, nor where it was not – they have the needs to make concessions.
Second, as in previous versions of similar conversations about the big deal, the key problem is that the US and Russia do not influence sufficiently on what is happening in Ukraine. That is, in contrast to the situation after the Second world war, when they divided up the world and defined the world order, and Europe was the Soviet and American armies, now all the talk about the transactions are based on someone’s wishlist and fantasies.
Even if they are about something agree, and rumors about it go with the time that trump had become President, how will they implement? With the help of which you can make any Ukrainian government or the President to accept the terms of this deal? I don’t see these tools, so any deal is unlikely.
In Venezuela, the United States and Russia the situation is also not in control. If, for example, they agree that the President of Venezuela, Guido, as the Americans want something they will do as President? In Venezuela there is an internal conflict in which there are supporters and Maduro, and Guido. The struggle between them and decide who wins. The Americans and the Russians there have no influence. They are unable to agree about anything, but how does that translate? They understand that the ways of the incarnation there is no agreement, so they do not get seriously something for something to exchange.
And even if the Americans had opportunities to make an impact bigger than they can today, they have no need of something to negotiate with the Russians in something to make concessions.
Putin cannot force Maduro to go, I don’t see it. So no big deals behind Ukraine can not be.
Possible maximum in these dialogues is a clarification, since in Ukraine a new President. The Americans and Russians have a common interest on how not to lose at least minimal control of the situation and not to allow in Ukraine the acute actions and crises. Naturally, they have a subject for negotiations at different levels – and trump Putin and Lavrov Pompeo – they will discuss it, but only in order to verify the position and restate your priorities, and not to agree on something.
