Porto make the short journey to face Santa Clara with both sides aiming to make progress in Liga NOS on Saturday evening (6pm kick-off).
The 29-time champions are in the unusual position of chasing top spot after their opening seven matches. Porto’s results have left them just two wins behind leaders Sporting CP heading into this weekend.
Not too far behind them (three points to be precise) is Santa Clara, who have been playing modestly well but nevertheless showing vulnerability which the Dragons are no doubt seeking to exploit.

Santa Clara & FC Porto’s previous line-ups:
- Santa Clara (vs Tondela): Pereira; Mansur, Cardoso, Afonso; Ramos, Nené, Rashid, Jean Patric; Lincoln; Ukra, Thiago.
- FC Porto (vs Marseille): Marchesín; Manafá, Mbemba, Sarr, Sanusi; Grujic, Oliveira; Corona, Otávio, Díaz; Marega.
Shahriar Moghanlou, who is recovering from a hand injury, is the only absentee for Santa Clara this weekend. Porto boss Conceição is without up to four players due to injury: Andrés Mateus Uribe, Pepe, Mouhamed Mbaye and Ivan Marcano all remain in the physio room.
Players to watch:
Santa Clara: Two of Santa Clara’s three league defeats have been by a one-goal margin, their most recent loss (2-0 against Tondela) bucked that trend but it further illustrated they are not a side that is not going to be blown away. A reason is the presence of full-back, and occasional centre-back, Mansur who boasts an impressive 1.6 interceptions and 1.9 tackles per 90 minutes played heading into matchday eight. The 27-year-old Brazilian has only missed 16 minutes of league action this season and is expected to start for Daniel Ramos in what should be an interesting contest.
FC Porto: Defending champions Porto find themselves six points behind Sporting CP after seven matches played in this season’s championship. Sérgio Conceição’s men are not finding it hard to score. Rather they have so far failed to keep it tight at the back. That being said, they’ll be facing a challenge breaking down Santa Clara, who average one goal conceded per game this season. Key for the Dragons will be flying winger Jesús Corona, who currently averages 2.9 chances per 90 minutes played. Aside from this creative nous, he’s found the net on two occasions, both of those strikes coming away from home.
