The Moscow city court on April 8 changed the measure of restraint to the Director Kirill Serebrennikov, who is accused of embezzlement of public funds, from house arrest on his own recognizance. This was announced by the Agency “Moscow”.
The Moscow city court changed the ruling of the Meshchansky district court of 2 April on the extension of house arrest.
A similar decision was made against other defendants in the case – former General Director “the Seventh Studio” Yuri itina and Director of the Russian academic youth theatre Sofia Apfelbaum.
In the appeal lawyers argued the invalidity of the extension of house arrest. According to lawyers, this measure of excess, and reasons for detention under house arrest have disappeared, as the majority of witnesses on business are already interrogated. The defendants asked the court to allow them to return to work.
The Prosecutor requested that the court of first instance without changes.
In petty-bourgeois court of Moscow on 7 November 2018 began consideration on the merits, “the Seventh Studio”, which is the artistic Director of “Gogol-center”, the famous theater and film Director Serebrennikov.
In addition Serebrennikov, Apfelbaum and itina, the charge brought against the producer of the play “a Midsummer night’s Dream” Ekaterina Voronova and former chief accountant of the “Seventh Studio” Nina Massieu. The latter made a deal with the investigation. Voronov was declared wanted.
According to the Prosecutor’s office, the defendants in 2011-2014 stole part of the budget allocated by the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation Serebrennikov on financing his creative project “Platform”. The defendants in the case were provided to the Ministry of false financial reports on allegedly performed works, said the Russian Prosecutor General’s office.
