“The government has planned three stages for raising the minimum wage for next year. From September 1 the minimum wage will increase to 5000 UAH (+UAH 277 or +5,9%). From 1 January 2021 the minimum wage will increase to 6000 UAH (+UAH 1000, or +20%). From 1 July 2021 the minimum wage will rise to 6500 UAH (+UAH 500, or +8.3 percent),” wrote Smigel.
He added: “Our vision on the need to raise the minimum wage is based on 5 factors that we analyze (consumer demand, inflation, employment, poverty, inequality). Active debate over the minimum wage was in 2016-2017, therefore we have carefully considered the advantages and disadvantages of contemporary solution.”
According to the Prime Minister, according to calculations, the minimum wage increase will stimulate consumer demand for Ukrainian products; will allow you to adjust the minimum wage to a real living wage, which is now virtually 4,9 thousand UAH; will not have a significant impact on inflation. Also, in conditions of warming up of the economy will increase unemployment, which clearly can be traced to the experience of 2017, said Smigel.
