The known Ukrainian athlete of Sevastopol Oleg Sofyanik four of their swim was dedicated to the Crimean Tatar people and its flag which, in the opinion of swimmer, represents today the struggle for justice and resistance to the occupation.
This Sofyanik said in comments to UKRINFORM.
“I had four swim dedicated to the return of the Crimean Tatar people’s deportation in 1944. The first swim – through Red sea and Egypt in 2013, the second – in 2015 Turkey in the Aegean sea and in 2019 two extreme swim in cold water in Sevastopol,” – said Sofyanik.
According to him, is he still in 80-e years supported the repatriating Crimean Tatars.
“I am a former dissident and actively supported the Crimean Tatar people in their struggle to return home in 80-ies. Crimean Tatar flag for me is one of the symbols of the struggle for freedom and justice, and at the present time – and a symbol of resistance to Putin’s regime and the occupation of the Crimea“, – said the dissident.
Sofyanik said that left the occupied Crimea because of persecution by the Russian security forces, but plans to continue his human rights activities, in particular, considers necessary to achieve recognition of the FSB terrorist organization.
“I plan to continue human rights activities. It is necessary to secure the release of Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia and the occupied Crimea, and recognition at the international level, the FSB and the CPE (Centre of counteraction to extremism, a division of the interior Ministry – ed.) terrorist organizations, like ISIL,” said Sofyanik.
He also intends to continue training to make your swims to draw attention to the problems of the Crimean Tatars and the whole of the occupied Crimea.
“I train regularly on the river, planning a long swim, dedicated to the Crimean Tatar people. We also hope to attract the attention of the world community to the problem of the occupied Crimea”, – said the athlete.
As reported, on June 26 in Ukraine celebrated the Day of Crimean Tatar flag. Today in Kiev, the Crimean Tatar activists hold rally for recovery on Obolonska embankment of the Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian flags, with a total area of 1650 m2.
