South and North Korea opened a joint liaison office at the border between the two countries – 24 Channel

South Korea and North Korea on Friday opened a joint liaison office in the North Korean border town of Kaesong.

This was announced by the publication Yonhap.

24 Channel earlier reported that South Korea and North Korea planned a joint opening of the government office in North Korea, what should be a historic step in relations between the two countries.

Today South and North Korea may carry out direct consultations 24 hours a day and 365 days a year for issues related to achievements in inter-Korean relations, peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula
said the South Korean Minister of unification, Cho Min-Kyung.

The office will serve as a platform to communicate and contribute to greater cross-border exchanges and easing tensions.

In the office from South Korea will host about 20 officials of the DPRK will submit a 15-20 officials.

At the official opening ceremony was attended by 50 people from each side. This step is a continuation of the agreement reached by the leaders of the two Koreas at the summit in April.

This is the first time in history, when South Korean officials will be permanently accommodated in the DPRK since the end of the Korean war 1950-53 that divided the Peninsula.
