The successor to the 370Z will do without the traction battery, at least not yet.
The new Z series sports car, which Nissan has promised to release before the end of 2021, will not be any electric or even hybrid. It is reported by the Australian publication CarAdvice with reference to the Vice-President of product planning Ivan Espinosa.
An appropriate statement of the top Manager did in the videoconference. He also noted that, in his opinion, the technology of electric vehicles, though, and has evolved considerably in recent years, is still not good enough for sports cars. This could be a bet, however, that Nissan operates in the mass segment, which is really not a relatively affordable sports cars on electric. However, the same family sedan, the Tesla Model 3 on the dynamics is comparable with petrol supercars.
However, Ivan Espinosa admits that in the medium or long term, sports cars Nissan will be all-electric. Most likely, it will happen in one generation. There should be a clarification: the successor to the current 370Z, which is expected to be called 400Z, technically be very close to the outgoing model. At the same time it will shorten the wheelbase and install a three-liter 400-horsepower V6 from the Infiniti Q60.
Edition Nissan 400Z is part of a wider programme of updating the model range. Under this plan the manufacturer has already submitted two crossovers – Rogue is a next generation and a brand new Ariya. According to the same top Manager of the brand new sports car is “very close” to the official premiere.
