Challenging the credentials of the Russian delegation at the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has supported 11 of the 12 members of the Ukrainian delegation.
“To challenge the credentials of the Russian delegation, had to stand in the session hall. And stood 11 out of 12. Stood up only Ms. Levochkina (“the Opposition platform For life”),” – said in the broadcast ObozTV member of the Ukrainian delegation, MP from “European solidarity” Alexey Goncharenko in live broadcast from Strasbourg.
According to him, the atmosphere at the PACE session was “tense”.
“We are fighting, trying to challenge the authority of the Russians. Finally the question will be resolved tomorrow (29 Jan. – Ed.) in the evening. The Russians promoted to Vice-President of PACE, Mr. Tolstoy. We managed in the first round not to give him to be elected Vice-President, i.e. “enter on a white horse” already precisely will not succeed,” – said Goncharenko.
However, according to his forecasts, the Russian head of delegation Peter Tolstoy can be elected to be the Vice-President of the Assembly the second time.
“We need to look reality in the eye. Most likely, tomorrow the powers of the Russian delegation will be confirmed, Mr. Tolstoy will be elected. But we do what we can… Tomorrow will be a different story in Russia, where we all say, and about Crimea, and about the Donbass, and about prisoners of war, and human rights”, – assured the Deputy.
Goncharenko recalled that the composition of PACE five years ago, when sanctions were imposed against Russia – different from the present.
“The composition is gradually changing. In the Ukrainian delegation of 12 people left only four out of the last composition. All the rest – new. So after each election takes place in different countries, and today there is much more Pro-Russian consensus in PACE than before,” he drew attention.
“But all ravenelia to leave that area, otherwise it will be worse. They (the Russians. – Ed.) want to return again, rhetoric about the internal conflict in Ukraine, and other things. If we will not or we will be inactive – that Russia will reach here only what he wants, “warned the MP.
- January 27, Stasbourg opened the winter session of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The delegation of Ukraine once again took part in its work after the autumn “break” because of the scandalous return of Russia.
