For children up to two years, experts advise to avoid spending time in front of the screen or phone at all. For children older than two years, this time should be limited to 60 minutes. No more. “Better and better find another way to spend time for kid”, – said the head of Ministry of health of Ukraine Ulyana Suprun.
In her words, “a universal tip for both adults and children – be moving more”. “Entertainment in front of the screen watching cartoons or playing games in the phone are not included in this list.”
In particular, Suprun said that a good way to attract the baby to move – interactive games on the floor.
“For those kids who still do not move actively, you need at least 30 minutes a day (at a time when they’re not sleeping) to hold in position on the abdomen. Teach them to move the limbs, pull, push or grasping small objects”.
It is undesirable that a child was more hours in the cradle swing or the sling on the back. The less time in a confined space, the better it develops motor skills of the child and decrease the risks to be overweight.
“For children two years and older need to spend about 3 hours in motion. Activity can be of varying intensity – ball game, walking, dancing, interactive games and the like. The more the better. It is important that children have the opportunity to move outdoors and indoors.
If the child needs to sit, try to read something or to tell. Or encourage him to play Board games, puzzles, drawing, sculpting or singing. These activities have great benefits for the cognitive development of the baby,” said Suprun.
The fact physical activity affects not only physical development of the child. She’s at that age affects the mental capacity and the ability to concentrate and to build social contacts. “Active kids tend to be friendly and open, it is better to establish contacts and interactions with other children. To teach your baby to be active you need to start as early as possible”, – the official speaks. “Children of physically active parents are more likely to adopt this habit and stick to it in adult life. And Vice versa. If you spend a lot of time watching TV, there is a probability that the child favors this habit and will be less agile,” warned Suprun.
In addition, the Minister of health painted the sleep. According to her, babies should sleep 14-17 hours at the age of 3 months. 12-16 hours must sleep in children aged 4-11 months. Children from 2 years – 11 to 14 hours of “good sleep” with the regular Wake-up time. Children from 3 years old should sleep at least 10-13 hours. Shorter duration of sleep is associated with a high risk to be overweight, impaired emotional regulation and growth.
“Good sleep + physical activity + less sitting time – a science-based prescription for full and healthy development of the child”, says Suprun.
