The decline in demand for compact cars in Europe because of the coronavirus is the primary culprit.
The representative of Donghee Auto, responsible for the production of Kia Picanto, stop the work until April 13. It is reported by news Agency Reuters. In a South Korean plant being built two compact KIA: Picanto and Ray.
Three-quarters of the Picanto is designed for the European market, the Kia Ray comes exclusively in South Korea. About 200,000 Picanto are being built every year.
Supplier of engine blocks for the two Kia models also temporarily stops working.
Hyundai Wai will stop producing tires at its plant in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, from 6 to 9 April.
