What did Tesla
The company Tesla made an official statement on the incident. It says that the accident is being investigated in coordination with the appropriate government Agency in China. Data from a destroyed car will be analyzed to determine what went wrong. The failure probably was caused by a malfunction in the autopilot system.
Other accidents involving Tesla
This is not the first accident that occurs due to a malfunction of the autopilot. In early June, a similar case occurred in Taiwan. There Tesla Model 3 could not recognize the truck, which overturned on the road. The driver stated that at the last moment hit the brakes, but after a short slowdown Tesla has continued to gain speed, which led to the collision. Then, fortunately, nobody has suffered.
In January of this year, the Associated Press reported three accidents involving Tesla in December, killing three people. The accident reinforced the check of the autopilot system of the company.
By the way, recently the Tesla Model 3 has received the award of Top Safety Pick+ 2019 from the Insurance Institute for road safety (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, IIHS) after achieving the optimum parameters in all six crash tests by the IIHS.
