The aggressive actions of the Russian Federation in the sea of Azov and the increase of its military presence in the region are more than sufficient grounds for the imposition of new sanctions against the country.
This was stated on Thursday, October 11, MEP from Germany Rebecca harms during a debate at the meeting of the EP Committee on security and defense.
Now Europe’s reaction to the aggression of Russia in the Azov sea is not sufficient. I want to know how the external action Service and NATO is to discuss this issue. Of course, this whole situation is more than sufficient reason for the introduction of new sanctions. If Russia’s actions will have no consequences, how can we stop its aggression and aggressive tactics
– the politician noted.
Rebecca harms called for an unambiguous and clear position of the West on the decision of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on amending the Constitution and opening prospects for Ukraine’s membership in NATO.
“These issues are interlinked and require a response from both NATO and the EU,” said harms.
Recall that in recent months Russia has detained more than 150 ships traveling to the ports of Berdyansk and Mariupol. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the Kremlin in the occupied territories increases the military presence that the situation has deteriorated in the black sea and Azov regions.
