The Cossacks told how not to get worms
Every year in the Zaporozhye region recorded 50 cases of ascariasis. These disease groups of helminths that are transmitted through the soil. These are called helminths. In common parlance they are called worms. This is the common name parasitic worms that live in humans, animals and plants. Particularly urgent is the prevention of this disease in the summer, when many residents of the region spend time at cottages, backyards and gardens.
As reported in the Zaporozhye regional laboratory center, most people infected by ingestion of eggs of helminths in the gastrointestinal tract with vegetables, herbs, fruits and berries, smeared with soil. The period of infection often coincides with the period of ripening strawberries, which can fertilize not disinfected sewage from backyard toilets. You can also become infected during the cleaning of raw vegetables, work in the garden, when dealing with animals. Children can pick up worms while playing in the sand or on the ground, if the infected soil via dirty hands going in their mouths.
Worms secrete toxic substances that poison the body. In humans may experience: fatigue, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, flatulence, diarrhea or constipation, loss of appetite and more.
When you see these symptoms it is recommended to consult a doctor. He will prescribe medication to prevent complications. Because they can be quite serious, namely, perforation of the intestinal wall, liver abscess, appendicitis, and even asphyxiation due to the falling of the helminth in the respiratory tract.
The laboratory specialists of the center say that the residents should be careful not to get sick – advised to observe certain rules:
- wash hands before eating, after working in the garden, playing in the sandbox, socializing with animals;
- vegetables, fruits, herbs, berries, and especially strawberries – before use, soak in cold water for 5-10 minutes, rinse under running water and drop a few seconds in hot water. In no case can not eat unwashed strawberries;
- to destroy flies, as they can be carriers of worms;
- do not drink raw water from a bet, rivers and other bodies of water, and if necessary – before use it should be boiled.
You need to be careful pet owners. They also suffer from ascariasis, which can be transmitted to humans. To prevent infection requires preventive treatment recommended by veterinarians.
