Odessa Jews gathered yesterday in the cinema “Rodina” to remember those who fell victim to the Nazis during the Second world war.
In the cinema “Rodina” in honor of this day held a ceremony of remembrance, which lit 6 candles. As told to us of Illona Chilkovsky, Director of Israeli cultural center, which organized the event, so many candles lit in memory of the 6 million dead Jews of whom 1.5 million were children.
The event was attended by Odessa Roman Schwartzman, head of the Odessa regional Association of Jews – former prisoners of ghetto and Nazi concentration camps. According to him of the 6 million Jews killed in the Holocaust, six million were Ukrainian Jews and 220 thousand people died in the Odessa region. Most of the Jews (54,000) in the Odessa region were murdered in Bogdanovka.
After the ceremony the audience was shown the film “the Odyssey of the Tehran children,” which tells the story of the rescue of nearly 700 Jewish children, mainly orphans, exiled during the Second world war and brought to Eretz Yisrael. The protagonists are children, who at the time of filming was already 75 years old – share memories of their long and dangerous travels. The story of the heroic survival of the Tehran children entered the history of Israel in the period of its formation. This story is transmitted by the Israelites from generation to generation, serving as a model of perseverance and steadfastness of the characters, vyzvalenchy Jews from the hell of the Holocaust.
