The Commissioner of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on human rights Lyudmila Denisova has condemned the decision of the court of the occupation “Kiev rinnovo court of Simferopol” on the case “Hizbut-Tahrir”.
This, she noted in the Telegram.
“I condemn the decision “of the Kiev district court of Simferopol,” which today was extended the measure of restraint for detainees is illegal Crimean Tatars in the case of “Hizb ut-Tahrir” in the form of detention until 15 March 2020,” the message reads.
Denisova said that the occupation court did not take into account the arguments of the defence, in particular the participation of Ukrainian citizens to commit crimes for which they are charged.
“Moreover, despite medical opinion for severe diseases Cemil Gafarova – the court extended the measure of restraint, and this is a direct threat to his life”, – said the Ombudsman.
Denisova said that he considers such actions of the occupation authorities as “a direct violation of the rights of Ukrainian citizens, which are enshrined in international conventions, namely the right to fair trial, liberty and security of person”.
“I urge the international community and human rights institutions to ensure the presence of representatives of the court proceedings concerning illegally detained citizens of Ukraine who are in prison in Russia and temporarily occupied Crimeato prevent violations of their rights and freedoms,” she added.
As reported, a court in Crimea ruled to extend the arrest until March 15, 2020 relative to a seriously ill Cemil Gafarova, as well as citizen journalists Osman Aitmatova and Ramsey Bekir.
On 27 and 28 March in occupied Crimea, Russian security forces conducted mass raids and detention of the Crimean Tatars, many of whom were activists of the “Crimean solidarity”. All were detained and arrested 24 people who were defendants in the second group of Simferopol “on Hizb ut-Tahrir”.
