Designer Daniel Boshart created full-color and photorealistic portraits of Roman rulers 54, connecting them stone busts.
Wasart made a composite image using the application Artbreeder, reports the News.artnet.
Ordinary users can just add two image in app and the program will connect them as best as possible. But the designer loaded on each portrait dozens of images of busts depicting the respective Emperor.
With the help of photo editors, it has removed the crack, added the skin texture and eye color. To bring them closer to the likeness, he studied the origin of the family of the emperors to guess the color of the skin.
“When you do photo realistic, it is easy to distinguish from the original any expression and character. I tried very hard to stick to it. Bust of Florian, which I used as a starting material, did not have much academic weight, but I thought this expression was exciting. It should have been retained. The more the expression is neutral, the harder it is to keep the photorealistic”.
For previous projects Wasart also used a computer program to create portraits of Egyptian mummies and convert a series of figurative sculptures out of clay created by students of the new York Academy of art, the realistic face.
