European Union does not recognize the application of Russian legislation in Crimea and Sevastopol and expects the immediate release of all illegally detained Ukrainians.
The European Union has called politically motivated the arrest in the Crimea of the Crimean Tatars and expressed his expectation that Russia will stop the practice of harassment and arrests, in particular, representatives of the Crimean Tatar people. The corresponding statement the official representative of EU on foreign policy, on Wednesday, July 8, was distributed in Brussels.
In the EU declare that on 7 July, seven people, mostly Crimean Tatars, were arrested in Russian-occupied Crimea for their perceived political affiliation.
“The European Union considers that their detention is politically motivated and because it was in accordance with Russian legislation the Russian “authorities” on the territory of Ukraine, is illegal under international law”, – said in a statement.
The EU also assured that steadily support the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
