The EU does not recognize the application of Russian legislation in Crimea and Sevastopol and expects all illegally detained citizens of Ukraine are released without delay.
The European Union condemned the systematic human rights violations in the occupied Crimea and urged Russia to stop the practice of harassment and arrests, in particular, representatives of the Crimean Tatar people.
This is stated in the statement of the representative of the EU, published by the European external action service, reports of NV.
“July 7, 2020 seven people, mostly Crimean Tatars, were arrested on the Crimean Peninsula on the basis of assumptions about their political beliefs. The European Union considers that their detention is politically motivated and since it was conducted under Russian law, “authorities” of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine – illegal from the point of view of international law,” the statement reads.
The speaker recalled that the EU does not recognize the application of Russian legislation in Crimea and Sevastopol and expects all illegally detained citizens of Ukraine are released without delay.
“The European Union expects that Russia will stop the pressure on the community of the Crimean Tatars. International human rights standards must be guaranteed on the Peninsula. Full, free and unrestricted access of international actors on human rights on the entire territory of Ukraine, including Crimea and Sevastopol, continues to remain a priority”, – stated in the document.
The statement also indicated that the European Union remains steadfast in support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
Six of them detained is Emil Ziyadinov, Ismet Ibrahimov, Alim of Sufianov, Seyran Khairetdinov, Alexander Sizikov, Vadim Bektemirov. Seventh, Dilaver memetova, was not at home. Later, the Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova announced the arrest of seventh Crimean Tatar Zekiria Muratov. According to her, it will incriminate “terrorist act” (part 1 and part 2 of article 205 of the criminal code).
