Rescuers extinguished a massive fire in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Nantes, however, was completely destroyed by a large body and impaired strength of the building. On Saturday,July 18, reports channel BFMTV.

The Prime Minister of France Jean Castex, the culture Minister roselyn Bachelot and interior Minister Gerald Darmanin arrived in Nantes. Officials noted the dedication and professionalism of firefighters and also expressed the solidarity of the nation to the residents of Nantes and the local Catholic community.
Prime Minister Castex called for early restoration of the Cathedral and promised that the government will take part in it.
Meanwhile, the Prosecutor’s office of Nantes launched an investigation on suspicion of intentional arson of the Cathedral.
The reason for this was that there were three fires – one arose at the level completely destroyed the main body, the other two side naves.
“At this stage, the investigation launched in connection with the deliberate arson. But to draw conclusions too early because there is still a lot of investigation that can bring new facts,” – said the TV channel, the Prosecutor of Nantes Pierre Sennes.
However, he told the media that no traces of hacking from the outside.
The construction of the Cathedral began in 1434 and took 457 years. It is included in the list of historical monuments of France. The building was severely damaged by bombing in 1944, and in 1972, survived a major fire.
