The managing Director of the IMF Kristalina Georgieva believes that Ukraine demonstrates “good progress” in meeting the preconditions of the Fund for the approval of a new program of expanded financing (EFF), which was previously announced in December.
She said this on Friday, answering the question of correspondent of UKRINFORM during a meeting in the headquarters of the IMF.
“I am very closely monitoring the situation since the achievements (of Ukraine – ed.) agreement at the working level. I also had the opportunity to meet with the President Zelensky and team in Davos. What we see is good progress,” – said the head of the Fund on the question of how Ukraine and the IMF close to approving new programs for increased funding.
Recall that in early December last year, Kristalina Georgieva, after a telephone conversation with Vladimir Zelensky officially announced reaching a preliminary agreement on a new three-year EFF program in the amount of $5.5 billion. Then the Fund stressed that the approval of the Executive Board, Ukraine must fulfill a number of preliminary measures.” But that include these steps, the IMF did not detail.
Commenting on Friday which “interim measures” still need to implement the Ukrainian side, Kristalina Georgieva said that one of them was “the presentation of the budget, justified in the financial plan.” The IMF also expects a “steps associated with the rule of law,” and will follow the development of this issue in the coming weeks. In addition, the managing Director of the IMF drew attention to pressure groups, which exist in Ukraine.
“Our focus is to support Ukraine on the path to improving the competitive environment. We all recognize that there are certain stakeholders (vested interests – eng.), which do not necessarily help to achieve inclusive growth (aimed at solving social problems – ed.),” said Georgieva.
In this regard, she emphasized that the IMF stands ready to support the current Ukrainian government on the way to zadeklarirovali changes.
“We all know what platform he ran for President (of Ukraine – ed.) and the Ukrainian people elected him for it. Therefore, we want to make every effort to provide institutional support to the country”, – said the managing Director.
