The Ministry of internal Affairs of Ecuador intends to provide prosecutors information about two Russian hackers who presumably are related to the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
As reported RIA Novosti, the head of Department Paula Romo promised “not to turn Ecuador into the hacking center”, which can pose a threat to foreign governments and their citizens.
“In the Prosecutor’s office filed charges against two hackers Russian hackers living in Ecuador,” she said.
Previously, Ecuador has refused to provide Assange political asylum, after which the British police were able to detain him on the premises of the Embassy on a warrant issued 7 years ago. London promises not to extradite him to a country that could apply the death penalty. In the United States have made Assange charged with computer hacking, for which he faces up to five years of imprisonment.
The head of WikiLeaks, was granted asylum in the Embassy of Ecuador in 2012, shortly after the failure of official London to extradite him to Sweden, where he is charged with rape. The new President of Ecuador Lenin Moreno has repeatedly criticized Assange, and several months ago received a guarantee of non-extradition of a refugee in the USA.
