The head of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill said that he hoped to end “harassment” of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate under the new President Vladimir Zelensky.
He said this at a meeting with the Council of Europe Commissioner for human rights, Dunja Mijatovic on Monday in Strasbourg.
“Recently there was an important event in Ukraine – was replaced by the President. We hope that will change state policy in the sphere of the Church. The previous government has openly embarked on the path of oppression of people along religious lines… we Hope that with the arrival of a new President these abuses will stop,” – said Kirill.
He complained that in Ukraine, the UOC-MP are forbidden to wear the name “UOC” and allegedly against the wishes of local communities transferred its parishes under the jurisdiction of the new Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
“We have a lot of videos where people just beat a healthy, strong guys. And then announced the change in the jurisdiction of the community,” says the head of the ROC.
