In a letter to the wife of Ukrainian political prisoner in Russia Alexander Marchenko reported about his condition and said that “hearings are similar to a circus.”

“Received a letter from the spouse. Writes that the court session is like a circus, and that the system “works”. He wants to get sentenced to the possibility of communication”, – retells letter Ekaterina Marchenko.

According to her, Alexander reported that he had poor eyesight, Marchenko currently left without the pills, wakes up in the night from panic attacks and palpitations. “But in spite of not very good health, he works out every day, doing stretching,” – says Ekaterina Marchenko.

As reported, on December 17, 2018 Ukrainian Alexander Marchenko was detained “MGB DNR”. After two months in prison “MGB DNR”, Marchenko was brought to the border of Ukraine and Russia and handed over to representatives of the FSB of Russia. Nearly two and a half months he was held with the help of administrative detention in the deportation centre in Krasnodar region.

The criminal case against Marchenko initiated only on 30 April 2019. He was then placed in a detention facility, charged with the preparation of acquisition and smuggling from Russia of military goods (paragraph 1 of article 30 of the criminal code, part 1 of article 226.1 of the criminal code) and espionage (article 276 of the criminal code).

As explained close Marchenko, in 2014 he drove his car to the service station in Donetsk. Due to the beginning of the Russian aggression and the war I couldn’t get the transport repaired. In December 2018 Marchenko called friend, said that like people illegally rode on his car, escaped from Donetsk, so there is the opportunity to come into the city and return the car. Relatives of a Ukrainian citizen claimed that the testimony extorted from him by torture.

In December of 2019, the human rights centre “memorial” recognized the Ukrainian Marchenko, a political prisoner.

Currently Marchenko waiting to be sentenced to jail 5 in Krasnodar. The court is closed.
