The premium segment is growing, BMW Group Russia is stepping up its share

If in the first six months of 2020 sales of new cars in Russia fell by 23%, the volume in the premium segment were down only 16% to 55 thousand cars, while sales of BMW Group Russia even less: 14% the BMW brand and 8% have a MINI.

Accordingly, in the first half of 2020 BMW Group Russia has not only retained its leadership in the premium segment, but increased its share to 33%. From January to June were sold in Russia 17 110 new BMW cars and 1104 of the MINI.

These results are explained by primarily two factors: a wide range covering all the niches, and the active renewal of the model line. Another factor is the continued growth in the segment of premium SUVs on the market – 71% versus 65% a year ago. And here is a BMW – the traditional leader. BMW X1, X3 and X7 – the best sellers among compact, medium and full-size SUV. In the first six months BMW has taken 33% of this segment.

In most other segments sales were also above the market. BMW X6 – the most popular model category Sports Activity Coupe. BMW 3 and 5 series sedans Excel among middle and business class and BMW 6 series GT leaves no chance to the competitors in their niche. In the late summer – early autumn in the sale will be updated BMW 5 series and 6 series GT.

In addition, the model range of BMW and MINI brands in Russia are now four open models. It is not surprising that in the first half and 8 of the BMW 4 series, BMW Z4 and the MINI Cabrio in the amount provided 42% of demand in the segment convertibles and roadsters. Appeared on the market in the spring of 2019 BMW 8 series Cabrio holds the first place in the segment of full-size convertibles.
