The President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanos Nausea awarded to citizens of Lithuania and Ukraine commemorative medals on the eve of Day of defenders of freedom January 13. In January-September 1991, they actively defended the freedom and independence of Lithuania, said the press service of the President of Lithuania.
For the first time since 2002 awarded the Ukrainians, who supported Lithuania during the January events in 1991 and participated in the defense of the Supreme Soviet of the Lithuanian Republic and other important state facilities.
“Even in the face of the greatest danger, Lithuania was not alone. We respectfully remember those who protested and condemned the bloodshed in other countries. We thank those who shared the risk with our defenders of freedom, collected and transported support outside of Lithuania, and some, like our Ukrainian friends, even gave the oath to the Republic of Lithuania”, – said the President of the Nausea.
“Commemorative medals of January 13, awarded to the Lithuanians and Ukrainians in the Presidential Palace, evidence of the unity of liberty, United the two peoples, and mark their feat”, – noted in the message.
