Thursday, November 28, the Kiev appellate court upheld the detention of chief of the development and maintenance of material support of the armed forces the General-major Dmitry Marchenko, the suspect in the procurement of substandard bulletproof vests.
As the correspondent of OBOZREVATEL, the defendant will be in jail until January 3. However, the court accepted the arguments of the defense and reduced the bail from 76 to 20 million hryvnia.
Also, the court found that during the events which incriminate Marchenko, he was treated in Irpin military hospital. He was treated for almost a month, which is documented.
The court also rejected the admissibility of the results of the examination of body armor, which was conducted by the special Commission of MO, because it took place on 23 November, i.e. after the decision of the Pechersk court to determine the measure of restraint for Marchenko. But this examination confirmed the conformity of the bullet-proof vest to the existing technical requirements.
In the course of the hearing the former people’s Deputy Borislav Bereza, head of the patrol police Evgeny Zhukov, people’s representatives, Maria Ionova and Mikhail Zabrodsky, Colonel Maxim Mirgorodsky and Aleksandr Oleynik, solicited willingness to take Marchenko on bail.
