Recently, the Segways are becoming increasingly popular. Choose them as a more environmentally friendly replacement of conventional transport. However, the material MIT Technology Review, the authors refute this sustainability.
Reports AIN.UA harmless at first glance, electric scooters actually also lead to the pollution of the atmosphere. Therefore, it is not the best alternative for the bus trip.
Segways do not emit harmful pollutants from the exhaust pipe. But the impact of the vehicle on the climate depends on how it is produced that replaces the user, and for how long.
Researchers from the University of North Carolina decided to conduct a life cycle assessment of the vehicle, and found that the scooters in fact produce more greenhouse gases per passenger than a standard diesel bus, electric scooters, electric bike or Bicycle.
Segways produce about half the volume of the exhaust standard car: about 200 g carbon dioxide per mile (compared to about 415 of the car).
Approximately 50% of the total influence of the electric skateboard on the environment comes from the production of materials and the production process. In particular, its aluminum housing, steel components, lithium-ion battery and an electric motor – the environment has a negative impact extraction of materials and their production.
Of great importance is the period of work. Ideally, such a vehicle must serve about two years. In practice, however, often breaks down. Although the researchers argue, if the electric skateboard was missing for a few years, it would cut average emissions to 30% by a mile.
