The 17th summit of the Francophonie, an International cooperation organization of French-speaking countries – completed its work in Yerevan. In the capital of Armenia gathered more than 100 delegations from 84 countries, 30 heads of state and government, including the President of France Emmanuel Makron and the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau.
Francophonie brings together countries, where people know and love the French – the second language of international communication on the planet. At the moment the Association unites more than 60 States.
The host of the summit Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan called the name chosen for the upcoming 4 years the new Secretary General of La Francophonie . They became Louise Mushikiwabo a diplomat from Rwanda.
“I think the Francophonie is a very harmonious organization with a large number of partners with whom the organization will work more and more as a catalyst, the engine. With this feeling I begin my mandate,” she said.
The Francophonie summit – the largest event in Armenia during the years of independence – is of great importance for a small country, which hopes to strengthen cooperation with many countries of different continents.
The forum promised to participate and legendary French singer of Armenian origin Charles Aznavour. Did not work… But the Yerevan summit was marked by Aznavour.
