Pejčinović-Burich takes office in the fall
The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine called conditions of cooperation with the new Secretary General of the Council of Europe. About it reports a press-service of the Ministry.
Thus, the newly elected Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maria pejčinović-Boric (Croatia) takes office this autumn.
“We expect concrete steps of the Secretary-General to ensure the implementation by Russia of the requirements contained in decisions of the Council of Europe on the termination of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, including the release of illegally captured Ukrainian sailors, Ukrainian political prisoners illegally detained in the occupied Crimea and on the territory of the Russian Federation, the termination of the systematic persecution of the Crimean Tatars and the lifting of the ban on the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people in the temporarily occupied the Crimea”, – said the foreign Ministry.
The Ministry also offered new head of the COE Secretariat to develop a new strategy for effective management of human, financial and administrative resources of the organization, which will allow to get rid of waste.
“Call for constructive cooperation and interaction with the Secretary-General of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and its presidency, which provides policy guidance to the organization. In this sense the foreign Ministry of Ukraine is ready to cooperate with the new Secretary General to establish conditions in order for the Council of Europe could get a chance on the path to restoring credibility. The foreign Ministry will closely cooperate with the subsequent presidency of Georgia to the COE Committee of Ministers to achieve these goals”, – stressed in the Department.
We will remind, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on foreign Affairs during the meeting of July 1, will consider the suspension of participation of the permanent delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
