In the fifth year of the crisis in Eastern Ukraine more than 3000 civilians – men, women and children – were killed and over 9000 were injured

The United Nations on the occasion of the 10th world day of humanitarian aid called on the international community to take immediate measures to protect millions of civilians of Ukrainian citizens who suffer as a result of active military hostilities in the East of Ukraine. This is stated in the press release of the UN office for the coordination of humanitarian Affairs, reports “UKRINFORM”.

It is noted that in the fifth year of the crisis in Eastern Ukraine more than 3000 civilians – men, women and children – were killed and over 9000 were injured, and more than 3.4 million people face difficulties regarding receipt of food, access to water, housing, medical services and education. It is noted that this adds to the vulnerability of their position and depletes the ability of restoring viability.

“I ask the international community to increase support for the expansion of measures aimed at alleviating the suffering of the civilian population of Ukraine, which is suffering as a result of this crisis, regardless of where they live within the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine, and once again urge you to fully comply with the requirements of international humanitarian law”, – said the coordinator of the UN system in Ukraine and the humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine, Osnat Lubran.

She added: “I Have a concern that the financing of the humanitarian response provided less than a third of the required amount”.

It is clarified that despite this underfunding, local, national and international humanitarian actors still try to provide in 2018, an estimated 2.3 million people, women and children who find themselves in a vulnerable position.
