The EU reminded of the obligations of the Russian Federation to release without conditions of the Ukrainian seamen, condemned the murder of Ukrainian physicians, urged Russia to stop stirring up conflict and to cooperate with Dutch prosecutors to identify those responsible for the tragedy MH17.
The representatives of the EU (Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, UK and Estonia) said in a joint statement at the press briefing after the UN security Council, convened by Russia to discuss the Ukrainian “language law”, reports the correspondent of UKRINFORM.
“We call on Russia to release without any additional requirements all 24 Ukrainian servicemen illegally detained November 25, in the incident in the Kerch Strait and the immediate return of the captured Ukrainian ships in accordance with the binding order of the International Tribunal for the law of the sea, adopted on may 25. We once again call on Russia to ensure free and unimpeded navigation in the Azov sea,” they said.
The European ambassadors also added that he fully supported the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and condemns the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia.
“We expect that Russia will immediately begin to inflate the conflict and refrain from actions that undermine the implementation of the Minsk agreements envisaging full restoration of Ukrainian government control over the territories, as provided in the agreement,” they said.
Diplomats explained that it is, in particular, that Russia must cease its financial and military support of seperatist, to cease distributing passports to Ukrainian citizens in the Donbass.
“We condemn the unacceptable attack on a medical transport United Ukrainian forces near the village of Vodiane 1 July, which led to the three victims,” they said.
EU condemns any attempt to intimidate, restrict or inhibit the work of the Special monitoring mission of the OSCE, in particular, recent incident when the observer opened fire.
“We urge all parties to fully implement their commitments under the Minsk agreements. Starting from a comprehensive and durable ceasefire and withdrawal of heavy weapons,” said they.
Permanent representatives of EU countries at the UN called for constructive efforts in the framework of the Normandy format and the Trilateral contact group.
“We are encouraged by the constructive participation of both Ukraine and Russia in the meeting of foreign policy advisers on “Norman meeting” in Paris on 12 July, as the successful withdrawal of forces near the village of Lugansk in the end of June,” said the diplomats.
The EU insists that the Security Council should continue to focus on this topic, given that the situation in Ukraine relates to issues of international order.
European diplomats have said that on July 17, marks five years since the crash of flight MH17, which was tragically killed 298 people on Board.
“Families and relatives of the victims deserve justice. We encourage everyone, especially the Russian Federation, to fully cooperate with the joint investigation team and judicial proceedings in the Netherlands to establish the perpetrators of the Downing of flight MH17 in the framework of UN security Council resolution 2166”, – summed up they are.
As reported by UKRINFORM, the delegation of the Russian Federation convened the July 16 meeting of the UN security Council to discuss the law on ensuring the functioning of Ukrainian as the state language, which shall take effect this day.
Earlier, Russia is trying to convene such a debate in may, but then it was blocked partners of Ukraine, referring to its manipulative purpose.
The Ukrainian delegation has consistently stated that the functions of the UN Security Council includes primarily the maintenance of international peace and security and functioning of the Ukrainian language in Ukraine is not included in this category.
On the eve the Ambassador of Ukraine Volodymyr Yelchenko said that Ukraine and its Western partners used the meeting to not speak about the Ukrainian language, and on the anniversary of the shoot down MH17, illegal retention by Russia of the Ukrainian seamen prisoners of war in spite of the decision of the UN Tribunal, the escalation in the Donbas and the execution of the Ukrainian physicians.
