Ahead of the summit of the Normandy Quartet United States of America expressed its support for Ukraine, and also promised to continue to exert pressure on Russia.
“The United States is assured of its unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine on the eve of the meeting in the Normandy format on 9 December… the United States will work with allies and partners to continue to force Russia to fulfill its obligations under the Minsk agreements and begin the process of peaceful restoration of their full sovereignty over Ukraine’s Donbass”, – reads the statement of the US State Department, the press service of the us Embassy in Ukraine on Wednesday evening, November 27.
The state Department noted that the restoration of Ukrainian sovereignty over the occupied Donbass could become “the first step to full restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, including its territorial waters”.
Us Department of state noted the efforts of President Vladimir Zelensky, aimed at enhancing the negotiation process.
“In recent weeks… Zelensky did prudent but difficult steps towards peace and reform, which include: diplomatic contacts to move the peace process; facilitating the breeding of forces along the demarcation line; strengthening the rule of law; strengthening the enabling investment climate; and improvement of the defence sector of Ukraine”, – said in a statement.
“The United States welcomes Ukraine to implement the reforms necessary for its long-term security and prosperity. The United States supports Ukraine as it moves forward on the path to peace talks,” concluded the state Department.
