The US special envoy on Ukraine Kurt Volker said that in the West are discussing the possibility of new sanctions against Russia over aggression in the Kerch Strait.
“And the United States and Europe think, what additional measures we need to apply, if Russia does not release captured sailors and will continue to gain control over the Strait of Kerch”, – he stressed.
As the diplomat noted, there are no decisions, but these decisions of the United States and the EU can adopt, in February, on the eve of the anniversary of the Russian annexation of Crimea.
Walker has promised that Russia will not go unpunished for its aggression in the Black sea.
Responding to a question about whether the new sanctions affect the Russian ports in the Azov sea, the U.S. special representative said that such steps are also considered.
“Russia is not completely blocked access to the Ukrainian vessels in Ukrainian ports. It seems that they resorted to a policy of deliberate slowing down. This means the rise in price of Maritime transport, losses for the region’s economy.
Our goal is not sanctions for sanctions. The goal is to restore free passage of the Strait of Kerch in all ports,” – said Walker.
