On Saturday, July 20, in Kiev was held a rally of memory of the third anniversary of the murder of journalist Pavel Sheremet. About it reports RBC-Ukraine with reference to “Radio Liberty”.
Reportedly, participation in the event was temporary charge d’affaires of the USA in Ukraine William Taylor, former colleagues Sheremet, MPs, friends and family of the journalist. During his speech, Taylor urged the Ukrainian authorities to investigate the murder of a journalist and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“On the third anniversary of the murder of Pavel Sheremet, we urge the authorities in favour of the freedom of the press and to prosecute those responsible for his death. Independent media play an important role in Ukrainian democracy”, – he stressed.
In addition, relatives and former colleagues of Sheremet said that demanding the resignation of Minister of internal Affairs, Prosecutor General and Chairman of the National police.
“We stress that the Minister of internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, the Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko and Chairman of national police Sergey Knyazev needs to resign for failure to disclose this case. We hope that the Parliament of the ninth convocation would support the demand for justice,” said they.
Also, the protesters urged President Vladimir Zelensky to form a working group of representatives of law enforcement agencies to provide a report on the results of a three-year investigation into the murder Sheremet.
