The United States is preparing a plan of military operations in the Persian Gulf codenamed “Guardian”. The aim of the operation, according to ONLINE.UA with reference to The Hill, will be to ensure the smooth passage of tankers and merchant ships, as well as reducing tension in international waters.
It is expected that the operation will take place in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, Strait of Bab-El-Mandeb and the Gulf of Oman.
“The operation is to provide security measures for shipping through cooperation with other countries to coordinate and raise awareness and surveillance in the Maritime sphere”, – reads the statement of the Pentagon.
Training operations in the Persian Gulf began against the background of the detention of the Iranian military of British tanker.
It also became known that the acting Minister of defense Richard Spencer approved the deployment of American troops in Saudi Arabia up to 500 people. It became possible thanks to an official invitation from the Saudi government.
The situation in the Persian Gulf and adjacent areas has escalated in the last few months. In the neighboring Gulf of Oman in mid-June, unknown perpetrators attacked the tankers Front Kokuka Altair and Courageous. In these attacks, the United States accused Iran. According to the military, on Board the ships were detonated magnetic mines, and then the fire started. Tehran his involvement in these events denies.
