The Verkhovna Rada Committee on foreign Affairs sent a letter to the newly elected members of the European Parliament, urging them to strengthen the sanctions regime against Russia and support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
“The Committee on foreign Affairs addressed to the European Parliament, namely the Committee on foreign Affairs headed by the Chairman of the Committee David McAllister, to stop the holding of Russia’s aggressive policy in Europe”, – stated in the message.
So, in his address to the MEPs of the relevant Committee of Parliament to draw attention to the issues of intensification of the militarization of Crimea, the discriminatory policies against the Crimean Tatars and national minorities, the importance of liberation of the Ukrainian prisoners of war and political prisoners, combating politically-motivated projects in the energy sector, in particular the “Nord stream 2”, which threatens not only Ukraine, but Europe as a whole, as well as the preservation of the capacity of gas transit through Ukraine’s GTS.
Also Ukrainian politicians focus on the need for further introduction of sanctions concerning the companies involved in the construction of “Nord stream 2” and counter the spread of disinformation by the Kremlin.
In addition, the appeal notes, and the importance of strengthening information security and cyber-security in connection with the increasing use of the Russian Federation technologies of waging a hybrid war against Ukraine and the West.
As reported, on July 18, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the situation around the political prisoners of the Kremlin, in particular, the Ukrainian citizens, illegally convicted and held in Russian prisons.
