Ukrainian boxer Sergey Derevyanchenko will fight for the IBF title in the Middleweight division. His opponent will be Gennady Golovkin.
When and where will the Derevyanchenko fight – Golovkin is still unknown. However, IBF has set a condition to conduct the defense of the championship belt for half a year after winning the title, reports ESPN.
Derevyanchenko has become a mandatory Challenger for a world title fight in April, winning by decision of judges Jack Kulka. After that, he climbed to first place in the IBF ranking. He had to fight against a Mexican boxer Saule “Canelo” Alvarez. But he refused to protect the title. Thus, the IBF title was declared vacant.
Among the reasons why Alvarez refused to fight – October 27, 2018 Derevyanchenko lost to Daniel Jacobs in a fight for the IBF belt. Jacobs subsequently lost the belt to Alvarez. Therefore Alvarez didn’t want to fight with the Ukrainian, he won the Jacobs, who Derevyanchenko has lost.
Another version called the financial requirements Derevyanchenko. He demanded for bout $ 7 million. However, in General, did not earn more than 500 thousand dollars.
