Vinnytsia region: what places are worth a visit
Vinnitsa – a picturesque and ancient city. The first mention of it in the annals of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania dates back to 1363 year. It was in this year on the territory of Vinnytsia was built a wooden fortress on a high steeper, below the confluence of the bug left-hand tributary of the river Vynnychky.
Street Cathedral in Vinnytsia
Known to us now the name of the city was first mentioned in a document signed on 13 June 1385 at kraków.
There are many versions concerning the origin of the name of the city “Vinnitsa” — the distillery, where brewed beer is to blame, old Church Slavonic VNO – pasag, dowry (say, the winery and the land surrounding it, was in the 14th century was freed from the Tatars by the Lithuanian Prince Olgerd and presented them to his nephews).
Another version of the origin of the name of the regional center – from the name of the river Vynnychky that takes place here.
Vinnitsa arch and spire
One of the symbols of the city is the snow-white arch at the entrance to Central Park. It was built in 1961, but it has a pretty futuristic. Next to her towering metal spire that resembles a rocket.
Evening design is beautifully illuminated with colored lights.
Interestingly, the arch and the stele was designed as a symbol of the space: arrangement of the arches and the spire symbolizes the surface of the globe and the rapid flight of the rocket.
The city design was called by different names, even “swallow”, but just recently the wife of the architect of the Novel of Marches admitted that her husband loved cats, and a toy figure of a cat unexpectedly became the prototype of the arch. Construction plays like its curved back and also relies on the four foundations as a cat’s paw. But if you connect the imagination, and rapid stele can be extended upwards represent the cat’s tail-pipe.
This historic structure is a true hallmark of Vinnitsa, it is located on the European square. It was built in 1912 at the then highest point of the city and was used as a lookout tower and a watchtower.
The monument is well preserved and has virtually original appearance. Unlike the initial project is only the location of the main town clock with six foot dials: after renovation they shifted lower tier and every hour of delight citizens and guests of the city the melodious ringing.
The total height of the structure is 28 meters. With the Water tower offers fantastic views of the winery.
