The US administration is concerned that TikTok can be a threat to national security.
President Donald trump said that he can on Saturday to take action in order to stop the popular video apps in the USA.
“As for TikTok, we prohibit it in the United States,” he told reporters who were with the President during his visit to Florida, reports the Voice of America.
Trump is likely to prohibit the application of his decree. Tramp does not support the idea that an American company can purchase the app from the Chinese company ByteDance.
The app is extremely popular in the United States, and around the world. It’s been downloaded 2 billion times, with 165 million of those downloads were made in the USA.
The application presents not only entertaining videos, but also debates, political views on issues such as racial justice and the upcoming presidential elections in the United States.
The US administration is concerned that TikTok can be a threat to national security and to share data of its users with the Chinese government. However, the company that owns TikTok, ByteDance, said that does not transmit data about their users to the government of China, and argues that only stores data in the United States and Singapore. TikTok also recently hired the former head of Disney’s Kevin Mayer as CEO in an attempt to move away from Beijing.
The Minister of Finance Steve Mnuchin said earlier this week that the government’s Committee on foreign investment, an interagency group headed by the Ministry of Finance, will study TikTok.
The work of the Committee is to monitor foreign investments and to assess their potential risk to national security. This may force companies to abandon the transactions or to impose other measures necessary to protect national security.
