Turkey plans to launch three new communications satellites, one in the fourth quarter of this year, another two in the first quarter of 2021 and 2022 each. The last satellite will be fully domestic production.
This was stated by the Minister of transport and infrastructure Adil Karaosmanoglu, reports UKRINFORM.
“Satellite of new generation Türksat 5A, will be launched into space in the last quarter of this year, broadband satellite Türksat 5B and the first fully domestic satellite Türksat 6A scheduled for launch into orbit in the first quarters of 2021 and 2022 respectively,” – said the Minister.
According to him, with the help of communication satellites, Turkey will take its place in the transmission of visual, voice and digital data. “Our country must enter the top ten 10 countries in the world that can produce satellites at the local level”, – said the Minister.
Türksat 5A communications satellite to cover the Turkey, middle East, Europe and most of Africa. He built companies Türkstat and TAI, in cooperation with Airbus Defense and Space (D&S) in the framework of the agreement signed in 2011. Its launch is scheduled for the end of 2020 a Falcon 9 rocket of SpaceX.
Türksat 5B also produced in collaboration with D&S on the basis of industrial capacities of ASELSAN in Ankara.
But Türksat 6A is a product of cooperation between the Ministry of transport and infrastructure of Turkey and companies ASELSAN, Turkish Aerospace Industries, CTech, Türksat and of the Council on science and technology studies. The contract for its production was signed in late 2014.
