From 11 to 12 October, the Ukrainian delegation headed by Deputy foreign Minister Vasily Bednarek and Deputy defense Minister for European integration Anatoly Petrenko made a visit to Japan, during which a Memorandum was signed between the defense ministries of countries for cooperation and exchanges in the field of defense.
As noted by Vasily Bodnar on his Twitter page the signing of the Memorandum is a new step for the development of the military-Atlantic cooperation.
According to him, Ukraine is the first country in Eastern Europe, with which Japan signed such a document.
At the same time on the website of the Embassy of Ukraine in Japan, the purpose of the Memorandum between the Ministry of defence of Ukraine and the Ministry of defense of Japan is to create conditions to promote bilateral cooperation and exchanges in the field of defense
Also during the visit the Ukrainian delegation:
– met with the parliamentary Vice-Minister for foreign Affairs of Japan Kenji Yamada, (the sides discussed current state and prospects of cooperation as well as topical issues of international and regional security);
– visited the base of the Maritime self-defense forces of Japan “Yokosuka” and held a meeting with the head of the specified database Vice-Admiral Gozo Watanabe;
– participated in the Ukrainian-Japanese consultations on security issues (the sides discussed wide range of issues of mutual interest, primarily for global and regional security, and prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of security and defence).
Recall that in early September, state Enterprise “Promoboronexport” that is part of the “Ukroboronprom”, signed a Memorandum of understanding with the Polish company SCAT. According to the document, the enterprises of the concern will be provided to repair torpedoes set-53M and will be providing spare parts of naval forces of the Republic of Poland.
