Ukraine and NATO at the joint Commission discussed the situation in the Black sea region

Ukraine and NATO, which on Wednesday held a session of the bilateral Commission at the ambassadorial level exchanged views on the situation in the security sphere, in particular in the Black sea region.

This was at the end of the talks in the headquarters of NATO, said Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration Olga Stefanyshyna.

Answering a question of UKRINFORM on the reaction of NATO to the situation in the Black and Azov seas, she noted that these issues were discussed at all levels.

“The security situation was discussed at all meetings, in particular in the framework of the meeting of the Commission Ukraine – NATO. The Ukrainian side, and I, in particular, stressed the importance of the support package of Ukraine in the Black sea region. As you know, will be reviewed a comprehensive aid package, the so-called SAR and agreed on the basis of the experience that we already have, to strengthen cooperation in this sector”, – said Stefanyshyna.

She stressed that all NATO colleagues expressed support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and acknowledged the progress made in security sector reforms and defence.

Answering the journalists ‘ question, whether you discussed the threat of escalation of Russian military action in Ukraine this autumn, Deputy Prime Minister noted that the parties paid attention to a wide range of security issues, including Russia’s actions on misinformation and propaganda.

“The format of the Commission (NATO – ed.) did not anticipate such discussions. But, of course, all the participants supported the territorial integrity of Ukraine and confirmed willingness to work within the framework of the Minsk and Normandy formats, processes. Germany and France are also its part reaffirmed our commitment to work in this format. Special attention was paid to the dedicated efforts of the Russian Federation in the direction of disinformation and propaganda. It was a separate unit of our discussion,” Stefanyshina said.

She refrained from lighting the details of the discussion, citing the fact that the format of the meeting in the framework of the Commission Ukraine – NATO was “quite closed”.
