Ukraine and Turkey are considering the possibility of signing a free trade Agreement to expand trade-economic and investment cooperation. The President Vladimir Zelensky said during a meeting with media representatives following talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, reports
“We agreed on further expanding trade-economic and investment cooperation. The volume of our bilateral trade in 2018 amounted to more than 4 billion US dollars. And I’m sure this is not the limit of our capacity,” said Vladimir Zelensky.
According to the President, his disclosure will contribute to the implementation of joint projects and the liberalization of bilateral trade.
“To contribute to this and the conclusion of free trade Agreements. We hope that our parties can reach a compromise on this issue and prepare all necessary documents”, – said the Head of state.
He also stated that cooperation between countries is extremely rich and noticed that the end of the year in Kiev will be held the next (eighth) meeting of the Strategic Council of high level.
In addition, according to Vladimir Zelensky, the sides discussed cooperation in the construction of roads, airports, sea ports, defense, energy and tourism sectors.
The President is convinced that in the next years Ukraine will show growth.
“We have this fall will host a series of necessary reforms that will make Ukraine a magnet for foreign investors. We have already begun active work in this direction, and I would like to invite Turkish businesses to us. I personally will guarantee your comfortable work in Ukraine. Let’s grow together “, – stressed the head of state.
Speaking about the meeting with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Vladimir Zelensky stressed the achievement of mutual understanding and laying the Foundation for further fruitful dialogue.
“Generous Turkish land several times gave us, Ukrainians, resounding victory. In Turkey, our singer Ruslana won the Eurovision, Turkey, Shakhtar Donetsk won the UEFA Cup. I believe that in the future our countries will be a lot of loud victories together” – summed up the President invited his Turkish counterpart to visit Ukraine for a visit.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that during the bilateral meetings he and Vladimir Zelensky discussed all aspects of Turkish-Ukrainian relations.
“We reviewed the steps that need to be done in the way of development of trade-economic cooperation. It’s finally time to finalize the negotiation process on concluding a free trade Agreement, negotiations for which have been going on for many years”, – said the President of Turkey.
He said that the trade turnover between Ukraine and Turkey could reach 10 billion U.S. dollars. According to the Turkish President, the achievement of this goal is quite real.
“We agreed with Mr. Zelensky to accelerate activities aimed at investment in infrastructure and construction. In addition, we exchanged opinions on how we can increase the level of investment by addressing some of the problems which joint efforts can make to jumpstart the economic development of our relations,” – said Recep Tayyip Erdogan, noting that the theme of the talks was also cooperation in the security sphere.
“I think that in the near future we will take all necessary steps to have all these plans came”, – concluded the President of Turkey.
As reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel. The conversation was on gas transit, Donbass and investment.
